5 reasons why this look just doesn't work

Dear Readers,

I don't know if any of you out there have seen Kim Kardashian's latest look but I decided  to dedicate a whole blog post on it.

As you might have noticed from the headline, I'm not a fan of this look on her.  And so I'll be giving you readers 5 reasons why I believe it just doesn't work.

Before getting to that, I need to point out that Kim was on her way for an appearance on 'The Late Show with David Letterman'. And so I decided to google some of her previous looks just to compare and contrast.

Need I point out the difference? I was stunned at the transformation. From sporting curve hugging, revealing ensembles to a tuxedo inspired look.

I'm all for menswear inspired looks but I just think this was a complete miss and here are my reasons why:

  1. Kim is just trying way too hard. I'm sorry but I just had to start with this one cos it was the first thing that popped into my head.  It's seems like she desperately wants to get rid of that sexy girl image she's been pinned with all her life. Well Kim, if that's what you're hoping for than this is the way to do it.
  2. Those pants. I mean for starters they're way too long for her. She should have opted for a pair of crop pants. She would have looked way better in those jacquard pants I posted on one of my previous posts
  3. and oh..that blazer. I don't know if you agree with me on this but in my eyes its seems like it doesn't fit. I know she's pregnant and all but there's just no excuse. She could have easily wore it in a bigger size and altered it to fit her body.
  4. And what about those chequered peep toe shoes? They would look amazing with a pair of leather looking pants or a bodycon black dress. But with this ensemble? Joan Rivers is gonna have a field day with this.
  5. Last but definitely not least, I just hated that she styled her hair this way - AGAIN. She's rocked it with other looks like the time she was pictured in a Balmain dress at the Cannes Film Festival. But this time? it just didn't do it for me. I would have preferred her in a pony tail or a high bun updo.

Kim Kardashian has always been one of my style inspirations but lately it's just gone down hill. In my eyes, I have to say it again, it's just like she's trying too hard. And it's not like it's her first time sporting this look. She killed the tuxedo look in the Kardashian Christmad card and was also pictured in the same sequenced tuxedo blazer on Dancing with the Stars.  She was also photographed in a tuxedo dress which honestly is a way better look for her than this one.

On her website, Kim Kardashian posted

"It’s funny, you can really see a difference between east coast style and west coast style. When I was tweeting live from east coast they loved the fashion!!! But when it got to the west coast they didn’t like it so much! Well… I liked it and that’s all that matters!
Take risks people! Have some fun with fashion!"
Well Kim, I'm from neither and I must say it just didn't cut it for me.

But hey, as long as the girl's having fun right? :P

2012's must KEEP trends

2012 was a good year for fashion. We witnessed some pretty amazing new trends last year, from the leather comeback to baroque print to seeing peplum just about everywhere.

I do hope they make it to the Spring Summer 2013 Collections but one 2012 fashion trend that will surely be missed is the 'unofficial' colour of Fall 2012 - oxblood. I have to say it was one my all time favourites. You can pair it when many other colours and I have this super cosy oxblood woollen snood which I wear with practically everything.

Oxblood is quite a winter colour so I sincerely doubt that it will make it in the upcoming collections. Blues, greens and yellows are however predicted to be a huge hit in SS 2013.   I just hope that we'll get to see oxblood back in the game in the fall.

Check out of some oxblood pieces you'll find in my wardrobe:

Another must have of 2012's fashion trends was the printed pant. We witnessed some pretty amazing prints last year, ranging from printed leggings to printed jeans. A few months back I bought a pair of printed Zara silk harem pants while I was on vacation in Barcelona. Again, they're very comfy and you can wear them with practically anything.

But a definite fashion no no for me was the wedged sneaker.

Honestly I'm not a fan of any sort of sneaker. I wear them just when I have to and try to avoid them at all costs. I never got the point in having a pair with wedges. I mean where should we wear them to? You can't go hiking cos they'll tire you out and you definitely can't be seen in public with them, so..I just never got the point.

One trend that did catch my eye was the leather sleeved jackets.

I remember seeing this one in Zara and I honestly regret not buying it. It's in oxblood and has a biker feel to it. It's pretty darn amazing. I just might make a trip to Zara again, check if it's on sale.

But anyway, leather sleeved jackets were quite the hit last year. Leather in general made a huge impact especially when it came to leather-look pants. One of my favourites last year too.

I've also earlier mentioned the baroque print. For a lot of people, and I honestly don't know why, they find it to be a bit too out there. I personally loved it and despite not finding the trend in most of my regular shopping outlets, ASOS.com had a vast range.

I bought this fab looking skirt a while back and must say was one of my signature items last year.

I wore it numerous times, either pairing it with a sheer blouse or just a long sleeved knitted black top. When out for sushi with friends, I rocked it out in a pair of wooden heel Pull & Bear ankle boots and a black faux leather jacket. And then for a more elegant night out, I styled it with a mid-heel black court shoe and a tweed black coat.

Again, one of my all time favourites.

2012 had some really good trends and will surely be missed. But my motto is if it ain't broke don't fix it. So if you look good in one of the 2012 trends there's no shame in making it your own AGAIN in 2013.

Just remember, always keep it simple and sleek.

Leather looks

So today I thought of sharing a sneak peek of what I am about to discuss now on my twitter page.

This season I must say I've become quite the aficionado with it comes to all things leather. The image captures myself in these amazingly comfortable Zara faux leather panel leggings. As you might notice from my previous posts, I'm all about comfort and I can tell you that these leggings are top notch.

Leather is quite popular this season, with many celebrities caught wearing them for all occasions. Socialite queen Kim Kardashian has been pictured in leather numerous times. We've seen her in black leather leggings, leather skirts and even in curve hugging leather dresses.

I particularly think that leather, especially leggings look super sleek on curvy girls so Kim gets a thumbs up for sure.

Leather is also super cute in colour. I've personally bought a lot of black this season but one look that stuck to mind was Kim's red leather skirt.

She's been caught on camera numerous times rocking out coloured leather - a trend that I predict might pick up in Spring.

When it comes to leather, I think you can practically where it with anything. In the sneak peak photo, I purposefully added a teaser of what I was wearing with my panel faux leather leggings.

I think knitwear and leather just go great together. They are both extremely comfy and go exceptionally well together when opting for a casual day look. If on the other hand, you'd like to go for a more chic night look, you can easily pair them with a blouse and a blazer.

Just to give you an idea, check out one of my own favourites looks.

Night look

With the right combination, I guarantee practically everyone can look great in leather. Just keep in mind class and remember the simpler the better.

Jacquard pants

Dear Readers,

Since you're still getting to know me I think it's best if I lay it all out there from the get go. I love Zara. Loving it might be an understatement as I don't think I've shopped from anywhere else in  a while now.

I'm not normally one to stick to just one single brand but I must say lately Zara has exceeded my expectations. Truthfully told, it's the first shop I go to whenever I'm out shopping but by the time I'm done, I've got no more money to spare.

The Sales are always fun times. Granted I always tend to be drawn to the new collections however this time I promised myself that if I have to justify jet again another shopping spree, then sale items it is.

I normally hate going through piles of clothing and avoid never ending racks but this time I was glad to do it as Zara had some pretty amazing stuff on sale. Truth be told, I wasn't wowed by the price reductions as overall I think I must have saved just around €50, but hey it's better than nothing.

One of the items I bought was a cute pair of jacquard pants which are to die for.

They're so incredibly comfortable and you can wear them up or down. They look super cute with a pair of pumps or just a pair of flats. Anyway you wear it, I guarantee you'll look super sleek.

Last Saturday I paired them with a cute sheer black blouse, mid-heel black court shoes and  a white structured coat all courtesy of Zara. I finished the look with a Stradivarious collar necklace and a black Ted Baker clutch, keeping my hair simple in a low ponytail.

This morning as I was rummaging through my closet to get ready for Uni, I found myself yearning to wear them once again. So this time I put them on and paired them with a  striped woollen jumper, black leather jacket and a pair of flats all from Zara. I finished the look with a Parfois tote bag.

I never get what the fuss is about when they picture celebrities wearing the same item twice. I mean come on I know they're rich and all but if something is comfy and you look great in it, you should wear it all the time.

Just remember, always keep it simple, sleek and mix things up. The more rounds the better :p

Golden Globe looks

So I don't know if anybody watched it, I sure didn't..was in bed by 10 pm yesterday..totally knackered. But anyway the Golden Globes were on yesterday and so the first thing I did this morning (obviously besides brewing a good cup of tea), was check out E online's gallery.

As I said in my previous post, I won't be discussing the elaborate works of designers such as Marchesa and Givenchy but I would like to discuss the style chosen by some of America's greatest actors.

Like other years, the mermaid dress is still the one that reigns over all the rest with actresses such as Jessica Alba, Sarah Hyland, Megan Fox, Hayden Panettiere and Amy Adams rocking one out. Taylor Swift is also dazzling on the red carpet in a dark plum taffeta mermaid gown. It features a sexy low back and long train, making quite the statement  as breakup rumours make headlines everywhere.

Up next, yet again sporting a mermaid dress is Emily Blunt. I've got to say I just loved this dress.

This beautiful actress is known for her simple yet sexy ensembles and once again I believe she's proven to everybody that looking good doesn't mean having to go overboard. Blunt was nominated for a Golden Globe yesterday evening, but despite not winning, this gold dress resembled the gold statute she hopes to win someday. I can't not mention how she kept it sleek with a simple bun and those eye popping pink gemstone earrings. Also, do notice the cut outs which are quite in vogue as I'm sure most of you know.

Moving on, while browsing the E online gallery, I noticed that quite a lot of actresses opted for a long sleeved dress, which I must say I just love. As a matter of fact, I chose to sport a long sleeved dress for New Year's Eve which I must  say I'm quite happy about.

The actress that I must say really shined for me is non other than Kate Hudson.

I must say I just loved the over all look. She kept it simple with hair and make up and then just made a statement with this beautifully finished dress. In honest truth I would have opted for a low bun instead as unfortunately her flowing hair does cover up most of the gold establishment at the top. I know I wasn't meant to speak of any designers..but I will have to make an exception for this one. It's Alexander McQueen guys, and it just oozes perfection.

I love the key hole detail together with the plunge neckline and the slight train. Overall I must say it was one of my favourites this year.

However, speaking of long-sleeved dresses, I believe Eva Longoria could have turned it down a notch. Yes she always looks amazing but I think she went a step too far with  this ensemble.

I love the black lace sleeves however the plunge neckline, cut out back and a slit all the way up to her thigh was a bit of an overkill.  Her make up was executed nicely however she once again failed to impress me with her pulled up dramatic hair do.

What I was surprised but at the same glad about, was that we barely saw any one shoulder pieces this year. They were a huge hit last year but failed to leave an impression this year. The only gal I saw sporting one was supermodel Heidi Klum.

These are some out of the many looks of the night. Make sure to check E online or Huffington Post for more inspirational looks.

Just remember, keeping it simple and sleek always wins at the end!

My very own Carrie Bradshaw inspiration post

I was randomly going through my facebook page when I suddenly realised, I desperately need a new cover photo. My first instinct was to google one, so being a fashion lover, travel seeker I googled New York. Browsing through the many NYC skyline photos, a picture of the infamous Carrie Bradshaw popped up. (Mmm sex and the city..I could use me a good cup of coco and some Mr Big right about know)... So, to get back to my story, I then googled Carrie Bradshaw and this exquisite quote just came out of nowhere:

"I like my money right
where I can see it....
hanging in my closet."

                          -Carrie Bradshaw

And so I started thinking of my wonderfully jam packed yet splendid closet and how I just love each and every item I've got in there (..ok not everything..I might secretly hate this horrendous top my Mum got me from god knows where..but hey I'm not gonna be the one to break her heart am I know?)

Really and truly I'm just a simple girl with no much to show for yet..I see fashion and it awes me..I am my own style.
"Fashion is what you're offered four times a year by designers. And style is what you choose."
                                                                   - Lauren Hutton
This is why I decided to create this blog. My aim is not to showcase and flaunt the works of the many brilliant designers we have out there but to speak of one's own personal style and how these looks can be achieved without breaking your bank

I believe in pure elegance, simplicity and just breathtakingly beautiful pieces. The key now is to mix everything together to fit one's very own personal sense of style.
